In the movie Inception
an important scene which occurs at 2:02 to 2:07 is when the audience gets
the revelation in the film that Cobb (LeonardoDiCaprio) gives the audience
insight on who he originally gave inception to originally, inception that of
planting an idea in another’s mind, in which that case can change not just the
personality of a person, but what the person perceives as reality. In the scene
Cobb is talking to the projection (a memory) of his deceased wife, ‘Mal’ (Marion
Cotillard) while Aridane (Ellen Page is listening to why this happened and
gives some light on the mysterious circumstances on how Cobb’s wife died.
Cobb
tells her that when he was in ‘limbo’ with Mal which is a place in the sub
conscious that person can be trapped in for a lifetime in the dream world. That
Cobb and Mal were down there for so long that they created their own life while there. Cobb then goes on to explain that he planted
the idea into Mal, that her world was not real. This was done that Cobb wanted
to leave the dream world and get back to reality because they were in essence
‘lost’ in the subconscious. Though they both do leave the dream world, the idea
that was planted by Cobb never left her when they came back to reality, in which
she questioned there were in fact in a dream or not. This part of movie is a
very important scene in the fact that the audience gets to hear this confession
and in sense that Cobb is confessing to himself and accepting the blame on why
his wife took her life.
